Darkness To Light

Today’s Reading, 2 Chronicles 27 & Isaiah 9-12

Focal Scripture: Isaiah 9:2 “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness.”

What or whom do you point people to in your Christian life? I know of people who point people to leaders, pastors, and even influencers. Then I know others who genuinely point people to Christ. This matters because who we point people to will impact them greatly in their faith journey. It will also impact them on who they put their trust in to grow their faith.

I have been around well meaning believers who invite people to come hear a popular preacher instead of inviting them to be in the presence of God. Men can’t take people from darkness to light. Influencers don’t really care about your struggles. Leaders should deflect any praise or positions of power.

In today’s reading we see a prophecy concerning the Lord Jesus. It says that the people who have been walking in darkness have seen a great light. This light was revealed on those have been living in a land of darkness. The point of this prophecy is to give the people hope to let them know their salvation doesn’t comes from people but form the coming Messiah. Isaiah was declaring hope in nobody else not the priests or prophets.

So what does this mean for us? It means that when we witness, teach, preach, and give advice to others we are to point them to the Messiah. We should point others to the only one who can change hearts and minds. I know this seems like an obvious reality but unfortunately it doesn’t happen very often. We make other people and ministries more important than Christ himself.

The challenge that we have is to communicate clearly where our hope comes from in our lives. We must make sure that we don’t point them to anything that is more important than Christ including our local church. Too often people make idols out of their church and leaders. This puts hope and faith in a place it doesn’t belong.

Only one person has the great light of life and his name is Jesus. Our mission in this earth is to make Jesus famous. Not our churches, preachers, or ministries. This truth matters because everyone must make God their priority and look to him for their hope and peace.

So today if you point people to anyone other than Christ it is time to change your approach. We want true genuine converts that go from death to life, not converts that have been made by man.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Micah 1-7
